About Amber Dutton

Amber has been playing guitar, singing, and writing poetry for several years.  She listens to folk, rock, and blues mostly.  Her favorites are Ani Difranco, Ben Harper, Regina Spektor, Anais Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Otis Redding, Vampire Weekend, Killers and Amy Winehouse among others.

Her first experience on guitar was learning the G chord from her Dad on his Yamaha F-series when she was ten.  She picked up that same guitar after her second year in college and taught herself by playing songs out of a book and singing along.  She wrote her first song in 2006, dedicated to her Dad, and later recorded it for her wedding.

She joined her first band in college in Chapel Hill, playing guitar, singing, and contributing original songs in turn with other members of the band. They played at local venues and festivals while she also kept working on her solo music.

In Chapel Hill, she taught band, chorus, and orchestra at a middle school for four years.  They performed a variety of music and even had a student acapella group (go Glee!).  During her fourth year, she earned her National Boards Teacher Certification in Music Education.

Now- she is working on a CD of original music, playing guitar and singing in the DC/MD area, teaching preschool music classes, working with Guitars not Guns in DC, teaching senior guitarists in the Sobin Foggy Bottom Guitar Orchestra, and visiting local open mics and shows to check out all the talent in the area.
